#15 Communal with Ee Chien (ACSP’00) at his place Jekyll & Hyde

Every business owner is far too familiar with the daily juggle of various duties within their organisation – it’s part of the challenge as well as the joy that comes with the position. While the team you’ve hired may be able to support you in various ways, at the end of the day, much (if not all) of the responsibility for a business’ success rests on the owner’s shoulders

But what if you’re a business owner with multiple businesses, or perhaps also holds a separate position in another company? While your hat rack would surely be overflowing, there are different ways you’ll need to find to keep your sanity in check.

At the most recent Communal, we were very happy to have Chua Ee Chian (ACSP,00) – Owner and Managing Director of Whimsical Inc (Jekyll & Hyde, graft, DAGGER) as well as the Director of Business Development & Partnerships of Endowus – as he shared a little on how he manages his various responsibilities, while taking us through his learnings from his business journey.

Coincidentally, from the group of about 30 attendees that evening, we had a handful who were also in the same position of straddling various businesses and work commitments. The intimate session of sharing amongst our business owners helped shed some light into the various perspectives and constructive mindsets of managing multiple streams of responsibilities, making it an insightful evening for all.

Hope to seee you at the next one!

How did other ACSian business owners feel about communals?

The communal of old boys carried an energy amongst entrepreneurs that pulsed through the course of the evening. Culminating with a keynote from various luminaries who are captains of their trade, each ABON gathering is peppered with relatable conversations and most importantly inspiring journeys that leave you coming back for more. The electric atmosphere of the tribe certainly brought back fond memories from days of yore!

As an older alum, I was very happy to see that the ACS spirit lives on in the current generation of business leaders in ABON. The same bond with a naturally (for ACSians) high amount of good-natured ribbing could be seen in everyone no matter the areas which we've all taken in our life journeys. I will definitely come to more of these events!

Whenever I get to attend an ABON , I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. The “behind the scenes” founder stories are real and inspiring.

If you’re looking for kindred folk, come and get connected.

Communal was a place where the spirit of ACS was loud and proud, but more importantly, the essence of who we really are as much more than a school but a community stood out to me. In every conversation I had, at the heart of it was how can I help? How do we make us better? If you’re looking for somewhere we don’t just say the best is yet to be but work towards it, this is it.

Communal with ABON is truly a surreal experience. Rekindling with ex ACSians, this time not as students, but as business owners & entrepreneurs in our unique fields. There is great synergy in this, and especially so with a great restaurant venue each time!

The ABON Communal is a great setting to catch up and interact with fellow ACSian business owners! With a casual set up, it was comfortable for us to share our personal and business interaction with one another.

As a new business owner, it's been hard to find "my people". After attending my first ABON communal I definitely don't feel so alone!

Despite not knowing anybody attending, I felt welcomed and accepted from the moment I stepped through the door. It was also wonderful learning from a vast experiences of ACSians further down the business journey than I am.

I had a wonderful time at my first communal. Safe to say I'll be back for more!

The ABON event was a great place to meet fellow ACS entrepreneurs.

We shared reflections about our businesses, explored synergies and potential partnerships, and more importantly reminisced about school days.

It’s amazing that you can throw a bunch of ACS alumni who have never met before in a room, and very quickly, you would relate like family.
